 Spyka This Devon-based trio emerged from a collaboration between Mike Cosgrave of internationally renowned Irish/world music group Sin é with Gris Sanderson and James Dumbelton of dance roots band Waulk Elektrik. Spyka has an original take on traditional instrumental dance music - jigs, strathspeys & reels - with the emphasis on a dynamic sense of rhythm, harmony and texture. This acoustic line up explores elements developed from a variety of musical ideas such as scordatura tunings and the relationship between bagpipe and fiddle music. The music is firmly rooted in the contemporary traditional music scene with many original dance tunes alongside those by the finest living tune writers. |

| Gris was
brought up in Clackmannanshire in central Scotland where
her father was a fiddle maker. She wrote material for
and played with Waulk Elektrik for seven years performing
at numerous Arts Centres and venues around the UK such
as Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree and Islington’s
Union Chapel as well as appearances at the Cropredy,
Glastonbury and WOMAD festivals. Mike is best known for his work with the band Sin é. He has also played with Bath-based band The Daily Planet and has toured with Fifers Jackie Leven and author Ian Rankin. He is a multi-instrumentalist whose talents have graced many recordings and live events. In this ensemble he plays guitar and accordion. James joined Waulk Elektrik at the age of seventeen, touring with the band from the Isle of Arran to St Ives in Cornwall, contributing his skills as a multi-instrumentalist and tune-writer. James is also a talented singer/songwriter and his skills as a session player are in great demand. He has worked with English singers Jim Causley and more recently Jackie Oates. He also founded the bands Hunter’s Moon and Spriggan. James plays bodhrán and mandolin
