Griselda is a musician and academic with experience in the fields of traditional Scottish and Irish music as well as contemporary sound art, composition and installation work. She grew up in Clackmannanshire in Central Scotland. As a junior student she attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and was a violinist in the National Youth String orchestra of Scotland during the 1970s. She attained a BA Honours degree (1st Class) in music (Performance and Composition) from Dartington College of Arts in Devon, and continued her research into the oral transmission of traditional Scottish and Irish music in a contemporary context to achieve her doctorate in 2004.

As well as teaching the violin, traditional fiddle, piano and organising youth music workshops, Griselda has been a performance lecturer at Dartington College since 2002. She has also been a practising musician for many years, playing the violin, viola and nyckelharpa on numerous recordings and in performance with traditional British, African, Indian and Swedish musicians in contemporary classical, jazz and pop genres. In the early 1980s she was a member of the early music group The Susato Consort based in Cambridge in which she played the treble viol.

Pieces have been commissioned for a variety of site-specific events such as the sonic art installation Cave Music, which was performed as part of the BBC Live Festival in May 2000. This piece was devised in collaboration with French composer Jean David Caillouët and performed in Kent’s Cavern in Torquay. DropIn was commissioned by Nailsworth Festival and comprised a collaborative audio-visual work made with the children of The Junction (Nailsworth’s youth club) and video artist Tom Addy. The piece was shown at the Prema Arts Centre in Uley, Gloucestershire and at The Junction during Nailsworth’s annual Community Arts festival in April and May, 2003.

In 1998 Griselda was involved in composing and performing music in the style of traditional Swedish dance music for the film based on the Strindberg play Miss Julie by British film director Mike Figgis. In 1989 she formed the group Waulk Elektrik with her brother Larry Sanderson and Peter Bingham. Four albums were released; Waulk Elektrik (1992), Uprooted (1994, recorded at Sawmills studio in Cornwall and produced by Sam Williams), House Music (1997) and Um-Di-Um (1998).
